Picross (also known as nonograms, paint-by-numbers, hanjie or griddlers) is an addictive type of puzzle that combines logic with pixel art. It's kind of a like minesweeper combined with sudoku. The goal of picross is to use the number hints along the top and left sides to figure out which pixels to fill in. Picross 2 is the Japan-Only sequel to the Game Boy puzzle game Mario's Picross. Mario puts on his archaeologist hat and pulls out a chisel and goes to work decoding some hidden images. Nonograms, also known as Hanjie, Griddlers, Picross, Japanese Crosswords, Japanese Puzzles, Pic-a-Pix, 'Paint by numbers' and other names, are picture logic puzzles in which cells in a grid must be colored or left blank according to numbers at the side of the grid to reveal a hidden picture.

The purpose of this game is to discover a board made up of blue squares and free spaces. You can do this by looking at row/column definitions: a sequence of numbers that describe groups of consecutive squares appearing on that row/column. For example, 1 5 2 means one square, 5 squares and 2 squares, in this order, separated by one or more spaces between them.

You can click the squares once in order to mark them as occupied. Clicking them again will mark them with an X; you can use this sign to track the squares that you consider to be empty. Clicking them again brings the squares in their original state.
